I am 37 wks tomorrow. I'm scheduled for a c-section on Feb. 13th. Problem is my husband deploys for Iraq on Feb. 7th. I would really like for him to see his son before he leaves. My doctor keeps telling me that if I go into labor on my own they will go ahead and deliver the baby. But if I don't, I have to wait until the 13th. If I could just get my labor started....but how?? We tried having intercourse, oral stimulation and I had contractions for about an hour to an hour and a half but then it stopped. Does anyone have so suggestions for me? Thanks!

I'm sorry but I don't think you should do that
You'r baby will be healthier if it can stay in longer

I'm really sorry for the fact that your hubby may miss the delivery but there's really nothing you can do. I tried it all. It's all old wives tales. Your baby's just not ready. You can try begging the doctor but I'm guessing that the 13th is really the earliest he feels that he can safely deliver the baby and that's the most important thing. He'd do it sooner if your body showed him ON ITS OWN that it's ready. You can't force it. Does he know the whole situation?? Try prayer. :)

I just wanted to add that 37 wks isn't really full term. 40 wks is full term. The reason so many people think of 37 wks as "full term" is that the survival rate at 37 wks is the same as a 40 wk baby but a 37 wk baby may need extra help and have an extended hospital stay. I know of many babies who were born at 37 or 38 wks and their lungs weren't ready. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true.

Keep trying what you are doing.. start walking and squatting exercises as well. I don't see why they would not schedule you on the 5th. That would put you in the beginning of week 38. How frustrating. I have heard that sometimes certain foods help.. there were a few cases here.. that women ate eggplant parmsiana, may have been a fluke.. who knows. Also some say caster oil and OJ.. but that did not work on my friend.. she still was 2 wks overdue before she finally delivered. I would go to the hospital and tell them you are having contractions.. maybe when they check you.. they could ..oops break your water.. I wish that your hubby gets to see baby before he leaves.. I am so sorry and good luck.

You're only 37 weeks. I understand the reasoning for why you would like to deliver sooner, but is risking your child's health really worth it?

A friend of mine delivered her child early for the same reasons. They even tested to see if the lungs were mature enough. They got the a-ok they were looking for. Turns out his lungs were not ok and he spent weeks in the nicu because of it. They said her due date was probably off and he wasn't really ready at the time. go figure.

IMO the baby will come when it is ready. If you've already been trying to induce labor and it isn't working, then that child is not ready to be born.

Try Red Raspberry Leaf Tea as often as you can drink it... at least 6 cups a day. Also I wass told that evening primrose oil works .... take 2 twice a day and insert 2 at night before bed as close to your cervix as you can get. I am using this right now for the first time and have not had any bad effects. The tea will help your contractions work better and the oil will thin and dilate you.

Why won't your doctor let you have the baby. Why can't they close to when he's going. At 37 weeks are full term. They are inducing me this week because of the baby being small but since I am 37 weeks, they said the baby is fine to come out. I think that the doctor with no reason but for you to wait is being rude. You husband is going of to war and you are full term but they will not let him see the baby before he goes. Well, good luck and as for going into labor, I don't know what to tell you. It is hard to make your self go into labor. Maybe try castor oil. Maybe you could try that. good luck and hope you husband gets to see his baby before he goes.

A baby is considered full term at 38 weeks...so there should be no reason why they couldn't schedule your c-section early because of the circumstances.

Don't stop when your contractions are slowing off then go at it again. Really talk to you obgyn and let them know that this is very important to you and your hubby that he is here for this special time. They may just need to know that you are very serious about this and then they may just go ahead and schedule your sooner.
