Why the 2006 Form 1040A does not have a tuition deduction? I am a student and this helps me a lot and this year, IU might be getting no return or pay the Government.

i know it is so stupid, i just found out they renewed the tuition deduction at the last minute. now i had to redo my 1040-A on a 1040 for one freaking deduction. It made a huge difference in what I got back though.

they change the rules every year. tax law in not set in stone - I'm not sure about the tuition deduction yet because I haven't looked at the forms. Just don't expect things to remain the same every year.

For example, you can claim a sales tax deduction instead of the state taxes paid but a couple of years ago that wasn't the case

Check information on Form 1040A, Line 31 and Form 8863 and see if you qualify.

Maybe you just need the regular 1040 form...rather than 1040A.
