I am 39 weeks and my doctor doesn't think I'll be preggers much longer. But I am soooo miserable I can barely move. I have other health problems so I expected to be achey, but this is awful. Everyday I've been having painful contractions but then they stop. What can I do to induce myself? I want him out like yesturday!!

I wish I could tell you the magical cure but there is none. If there was, the doctors would use it instead of inductions with medicines. Your dr's right, you won't be pregnant much longer but that's just common sense, you ARE 39 wks.

I had 4 overdue children, 1 day, 2 days, and 2 babies who were each 9 DAYS OVERDUE and I tried every single thing that people are suggesting and nothing worked. They're all old wives tales. Your baby will come when he is ready. I know it'll be soon.

Are you dilating at all? If so, even a fingertip ask the doctor to strip the membranes. It's like an uncomfortable vag check and majorly helped me! I went from 4 to complete in 2 1/2 hrs! Good luck.

The last few weeks and days do seem like you'll be pregnant forever, don't they?! You could try having sex, but I always felt like a beached whale at that point in time and about as unattractive as possible!! With my first baby, my doctor told me to try taking castor oil. It was horrible, but it worked. I went into labor a few hours later and had the baby the next day. Try mixing the castor oil with Root Beer or something like that. It cuts the flavor and the oiliness. Also, stay near the bathroom for the rest of the day. Castor oil works by irritating your bowel (and emptying it therefore reducing the threat of doing anything embarrassing during the pushing phase!) which in turn irritates your uterus and causes contractions. Whether or not these contractions turn into true labor depend on how ready your body is.

Other options include nipple stimulation, walking, drinking raspberry or primrose tea (I think these mainly help soften the cervix) or taking blue or black cohosh. I've also heard that some women go into labor after eating spicy food. You could also ask your doctor to strip your membranes at your next appointment! Hang in there. It'll all be over soon. Good luck!

Oh darling I can relate mine was two weeks late, what you must do is not exercise, you will need your energy for labour. You must rest and relax, do a bit of nesting if you will, clean the whole house, but dont knock yourself out working too hard you will need all that energy soon enough. You will have your baby soon enough, when you are ready.

Think about how you are ready, physicall, mentally, emotionally, then it will happen.

You are going to be fine and a great mother. Dont try to induce yourself physically, it dosent work that way, leave that up to the doctors and midwives if and when they deem it necessary because it is much easier on you if it happens naturally, however they will get to a point where they will help you out if he stays in there too long.
Go and get some rest, and think about how great it will be to look into that babys eyes for the first time. How it will feel to be holding the baby.
Best of luck darlin and stop worrying, everything is as it should be.

Since you can barely move.. have you tried nipple stimulation.. I have been told by own doctor that it can cause you to go into hard labor. I was also told by some of the nurses that having sex will open the cervix as well.. like you want to have sex.. I know.. I thought to myself.. sure lady you are not the one who is about to pop. But is what put my friend into hard labor and her water broke on the way to the hospital. Walking, squatting, are some things also.. but when you are miserable.. all you want is someone to push them out. I am sorry that you feel bad.. wish there was more I could offer.. good luck and congrats!!

* the caster oil does not always work.. friend drank it and still was 2wks overdue.. would not suggest that.. just makes the potty call quicker. sorry!

Well, I tried every home remedy under the sun with my 3rd child. NOTHING WORKED!!! Not the castor oil trick, not the Balsamic Vinegar trick, not the taking a hot bath trick, not the nipple stimulation trick, not the bumpy dirt road trick, not even the having sex trick.
Heck with him, they even tried scrambling my membranes (as its called) at the doctors office.... DIDNT WORK!!!
When this baby is ready to come, it will happen! Sorry that you are so miserable, its something most women have felt when due. Enjoy the few precious moments you have left all to yourself. Make sure you got everything done that you wanted to, and in order while you got the chance to.
It will all happen in due time. Best of Luck to you & Congrats!!!

Drink lots of water and walk (if you can)

I have heard red rasberry leaf tea is a great way to get labor started. (I'm allergic, so I couldn't try it)

You may try getting a massage with someone who is well versed in accupressure. I had a massage therapist tell me that there are points that help move things along.

Have sex if you can. (I know, last thing on your mind)

Hang in there, you'll have a full term healthy baby at the end of this.

I know first hand how hard the last few weeks of pregnancy is. I had painful contractions at home for 5 days before they actual kept me in the hospital. Please enjoy the last few days you have being pregnant. You will soon have your little one in your arms. There will be days that you will wish you were still pregnant. Try to rest as much as you can you will need to be plenty rested to deal with your new little one. Congrats!

oh you poor thing, it's dreadful isn't it. This is my recommendation. Totally relax, have a long hot bath, your favourite meal (curry is supposed to be good but whatever you like best) get your partner to give you a full body massage concentrating particularly on feet and ankles which often suffer at the end of pregnancy, and a long leisurely night of love making. Repeat as necessary. Will it induce labour? No of course it won't but you won't care.

Here's all the stuff that I've heard (of course there's no scientific evidence to back it up):

-walking
-sex
-eating spicy foods
-there's a pressure point on the foot, around the ankle...maybe you could go see a massage therapist

I'm sure there are others...just can't think of any!
Good luck! :-)
