I have been a child care provider for 17 years and it really doesn't matter how many teeth your child has. Children use their gums to chew until they get their molars. At this time I take care of an 8 month old and a 10 month old and they are both on the full child care menu. As long as your child can chew break up what ever you want to give your child and try it. Both children are already eating things like hamburgers, ritz crackers, chicken, etc... Start out breaking it up small about the size of a pea if your child can handle that size they are ready for any snacks you want to try. Soft pretzels are good or if you want a name brand Gerber Graduates has finger foods that melt in a childs mouth and they come in fruit and vegetable flavors.

Gerber has these great things out for babies. My 10 month old daughter loves their Graduate Finger Food puffs, and Biter Biscuits. The puffs disolve with their saliva, and are great at teaching them how to pick up a small item.
But for general around the house things that I also give my little one here. Try pretzel rods (skim off some of the salt though), cheerios, YoBaby yogurts are great, toast cut into squares, graham crackers. Theres a few of our most popular choices.
My now 10 month old is my 4th here, and I have learned from trial and error with the other 3, avoid round snacks like goldfish, kix cereal, cheeto shaped items also. And never give nuts or honey to a child till they are at least 3. (Know of a child that died from eating a penut at age 2.)
So, here are some suggestions. Hope they help!

saltines or cheerios. Saltines make a mess though. We broke cheerios in half for a while. The bitter bisquits are REALLY messy and I am always afraid a chunk will break off so I stayed away from them. Gerber has some cereal like snacks and dried fruit and veggie snacks. The fruit and veggies are freeze dried and just dissolve.

Cheerios
Banana [cut up]
Apple slices
the apple may be to hard to bite into but if they are teething, and the apple comes from the fridge, peel it cut it up in slices good to teeth on and anything they get to eat out of it is healthy.
Which is better than the preservatives in some teething biscuits. And develops healthy snack habits.

I'd say any of the teething cookies, then ones that dissolve. Gerber has a huge line of snacks for little ones with or without teeth

(Re: First poster - yes kids love cheetos because they are junk food - that's why we all like junk food. I wouldn't give it to your baby though. Talk about getting them off the start line with a disadvantage!)
All of the mums I know gave their babies plain Cheeri-Os. (Not the Honey Nut ones because they have sugar on them and it will rot their baby teeth). If you get the plain ones though they are firm enough that they can nibble on them with their little teeth, but they also soften fairly quickly with the saliva. Also, even though they are small, they have a hole in the middle so they won't choke on them.
Remember Plain Cheeri-O's - and they are made from multi-grains too so they'll get their fibre.
Cheese is not a good one because it constipates them. Fruit is not that good either because the acidity rots teeth very quickly.

My 8 Month old is the same, I gave him toast yesterday, he made a mess but he really enjoyed it.
Also some of his other favorites are "Sponge Fingers" ..Get them from Sainsburys or Asda
and the old favorite ..Rusks
My eldest son gave the baby some crisps the other day "Skips" and he loved them, it kept him quiet for quite a bit.
If he is getting pain from teething, try some COLD carrot sticks or Celery sticks etc, they keep there cool for longer than the teethers.

Mum of 8.....How about trying bananas, mashed up with yoghurt, sort fruits, like grapes strawberries..Infact a child with only two front teeth can eat pretty much anything as they use their gums to help chew.Hot dogs are good, if you want the child to only have healthy food then you are limited but if you dont mind the odd unhealthy food then i would try anything that is soft.....sandwiches with soft cheese is good....

Puffs are great. They dissolve really fast and they have a lot of nutrients. I think Gerber makes them, but at WalMart they have a Parents Choice version that is a little bit cheaper. My daughter is now 13 months with 10 teeth and she still loves them. I started giving to them to her at 8 months with one tooth and she did fine with them. Good Luck!
