Hi everyone. I am 23 weeks pregnant. Healthy and fit. I have only gained about 5 lbs, so it is not the excess weight, but I seem too be out of breath a lot. Mostly at night when I am trying to relax. Last night in bed, laying on my left side, I just could not seem to catch my breath. I have a Dr. appointment in the morning, so I will ask then, but for now, is this normal?

To Lady T,

My doc is not concerned with my weight gain, the baby is fine. All my weight is in my stomach. I am the VP of a small company, so no I do not need food stamps. And no I do not smoke. I may have gained a few more since my last appoinment but, according to my last, I was fine and the baby is fine. I do not appreciate the assumptions as you are not a doctor and no nothing about me.

Your baby isn't leaving much room inside. So there is a ton of pressure on your lungs, which make it difficult to breathe. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Sorry to say, you will probably feel this way until you "drop." Hang in there!!

I just posted this question the other day. It's completley normal. My doctor, whom I had seen just yesterday, reassured me that it's quite alright. When we're pregnant, we tend to breathe more deeply, and with the growing baby, our organs begin to shift around (sounds gross, I know). A few tips I had received was to try reclining, walking around, and avoid slouching. I find that a few deep gulps, some water, and walking around a bit helps. I've gained 9 lbs and I'm almost 23 weeks. My doctor wasn't concerned about it, but if you are, bring it up at your next appointment.

I would be a great deal more worried about your low weight gain. Do you smoke? Does the doctor have any idea why you have not gained a normal amount of weight? By this point in your pregnancy you should have gained about 15 pounds, that means you have only gained about 1/3 of the amount of weight you have needed.
The baby may be able to develop normally with the small amount of weight that you have gained but it will certainly make it more difficult. Why put your baby at risk this way?
If you cannot afford food there are social service agencies that will help you. There is no reason for you to be malnourished. Please talk to your doctor about what you can do to nourish yourself and your baby properly. You are putting your own health at risk as well as that of your baby.
Babies born with low birth weights suffer from a whole host of problems that can easily be avoided.
Good luck and I hope you will start taking better care of yourself. This is one time when taking care of you is taking care of your baby.
Blessings to you and your baby.
Lady T~ P.S. I have never claimed to be a doctor here at Yahoo! Answers. I do counsel women who have high risk pregnancies and teenagers who are at risk also. In my work I see women who have gained very small amounts of weight and usually the reason is a lack of access to appropriate food. I can only go by what was written. The facts spoke for themselves. Your reasons for not eating are of course you own and I can only address them in as much as they effect your pregnancy. You are under no circumstances compelled to read my answer to your question nor to follow my advice. As long as I stay within the Yahoo! guidelines and express what I have been taught I have done nothing wrong. Sorry you did not like my answer.

Baby is starting to take up more room and is pressing on your organs, therefore making it hard to breathe.

Yes this is normal. Your uterus is pressing on your diaphragm. Prop yourself up with extra pillows when you are lying down. This will help. Good luck

Im sure its normal, its just that the uterus is stretching and it pits pressure on everything in your belly!!! You should be fine!!
