Jeffrey Archer Perjury

2016-10-31 22:22:16 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

As so many people have answered he was jailed for perjury etc., but his biggest crime was to lie consistently, almost from the moment he was able speak, about his background and achievements - all of which were untrue or highly distorted. There are several biographies on this charlatan worth reading for the details. NB He's never sued any of the authors, so that tells you something! Recently, a well known British boxer was stripped of his MBE for being involved in a nasty road accident... yet the same UK government/monarch allows a really shameful person, namely J Archer, to keep his peerage (not 'knighthood', by the way). That means, theoretically, that this ex convict can sit in the House of Lords and pass legislation which we, the law abiding majority, will have to follow.

What a stupid crazy system our country operates... but having friends in high places helps, I suppose.

It all depends what type of prison you are in. An open prison (Cat D) is the one where you have alot of freedom - can even go out to work and on town visits. These are for people doing time for small offences or are not a 'risk' to the public or those coming near the end of a long sentence getting ready to get released. Most prisons aren't like that though. In a Cat B prison it's not a holiday camp by any means but it's not a good place to be either. People give out about the fact that prisoners have TVs and DVDs and can go to the gym (not very often) but believe me having a TV and a pool table and the few other bits and pieces doesn't make up for being away from your mates and family. You get told what to do and when to do it and you don't have many choices over the normal day to day stuff. You share a cell not much bigger than a bathroom with somebody you don't know and maybe don't get on with. There's always the chance of something kicking off and ending up in the middle of something. People hang themselves in prison - hardly because they're having an easy life. The screws prefer people having stuff to keep them occupied in their cells or on the wing as it makes their job easier. Any of the privileges that people give out about - like TVs, association, DVDs, gym time, phonecalls, visits, being allowed smoke can be taken away if they think you've stepped out of line so people have a reason to behave. It's just very depressing being locked in your cell at 8pm and thinking about what everybody else is doing and how you're stuck where you are. I don't have any plans to go back.

He was guilty of perjury, and of being Jeffrey Archer.
1 year for perjury and 3 for the latter.

It was perjury. He was awarded damages for a story in The Sun about him paying £2000 to a prostitute. The story turned out to be true (unlike anything the former Lord Archer has ever said)

Additional:

One of my favourite "Archerisms" is, when asked about his claim that his father won the Victoria Cross replied "I don't talk about my fathers VC". The reason being : he didn't bloody win one!

Crimes, plural: Perjury, claiming monies by deception, being Jeffrey Archer and a prostitute he spent time with died conveniently in a car crash before she could give evidence against him.

It was perjury and perverting the course of justice. (It was not fraud.)

By the way, Lord Archer is not a knight, but a peer; and he is still a peer.

Perjury.

His main crime is BEING Jeffrey Archer.
