Did they say that because he had to fell some trees to build his house his lifestyle was "unsustainable?" Did they say that it was "greedy" for him to want a better house than they had? Did they argue that somehow his house, the product of his own work, came at their expense? Did they complain that it wasn't "fair" that he now had better living conditions than they did? Maybe he traded for the wood to build the house with - did the other cave men scratch their heads and fail to understand how the entire process could happen without central coordination by one person or group?

My theory: there were two separate groups of cavemen and two first house-builders. One group looked at each other and said, "let's emulate that guy" and they all built houses. The other group forced their house-builder to pay a luxury tax until he had to abandon the house and go back to the caves with the rest of the group.

Which group do you want to be?

Your house builder went agaist the tribal (socialist ) mentallity and became a property owner.
He was attacked for not being like all the rest, his house burned and forced back into the cave.
Later, he invented the portable cave ( tent ) and his tribe was able to follow the game rather than wait for it to come to them.
But , it was still a tribal movement, directed by the chief and his trusted followers ( government ) who didn't hunt but always took their share and more ( taxes ).

Yaeh, it's was just as today. If you don't meet the high class standards of the snooty crew, you can't build a house in thier area. At least thats the way it is where I live. You know what I mean. country club, attending galas, milllion dollar homes and yale grads. etc etc. Just give me a home on the range with an elec range inside, some chop to burn and I am happy. Don't need the yatchs, the country club membership and an ascot.

I have a different theory. I don't believe there was a society of cavemen. I think the people who lived in caves were prehistoric winos, no different from the people living under bridges today.
Imagine 20,000 years from now, scientists discover a community of people who lived under a bridge. After that they start calling our society bridgemen. Soon their commercials on TV state, "It's so easy a bridgeman could do it."

And one caveman started a "religion" to scare and control the others, the chief caveman went along because it increased his control over the tribe. Both required "donations": One for protection of your soul, and the other for your safety.

Nice doing the answer thing with you.
