There was a chance for the Dome to become something at last - a Super Casino - but that hasn't happened. Maybe there was a question mark over it with a whiff of scandal over the Prescott dalliance with the American who will be payrolling said project. But for whatever reason, we are once again left with something which cost the taxpayers (US!!!) a lot of money and is not doing anything of impact for this country now. This Government were behind pushing ahead to build the Dome - so how come they haven't done anything with it?

If carli...(and any other so stating) is correct - and the Dome is being fully utilised - how come it was an option for a site for this Super Casino.? That makes no sense to me

I beleive that the Dome is just a waste of tax payers money and the government are just wasting our money.
They could turn in into a lot of things that will both benefit everybody but they have not.
it is soo sad

O2 don't own the Dome, they own the naming rights to it. The O2 is being redeveloped by Anschutz Entertainment Group not the Government.
The renaming of the dome on May 31, 2005 gave publicity to the Dome's transition into an indoor sporting arena. In this role the plan is to host the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships and the artistic gymnastics and trampolining events of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and is believed to be in talks with the Association of Tennis Professionals to host the Tennis Masters Cup from 2009.
The building will contain an arena with a capacity of up to 23,000 for in the round events- in a 'horseshoe' layout similar to Sheffield Arena. Justin Timberlake will play the first concerts at the arena in July 2007.
So it's not being used for anything hey...?

In my opinion the government should use the Dome sight as a brown field building site. It should be used to build affordable homes for key workersIE police, nurses, Firemen,Service personnel. the fact that the site has lost so much money is bye the bye . compulsory purchase the sight. sell it to a developer with the proviso that all housing is to be 2 bed maximum and then sell them off at a relitively small profit. every body wins.

The government should get the approval of all taxpayers before embarking on whimsical fantasies like the Dome. I wouldn't be surprised if it was transformed in to a multi-storey car park. I'm sure, whatever the outcome, it will only end up fleecing us (the public) of even more of our hard-earned money.

The dome actually cost us very little - its all media hype. It was paid for by sponsors and the lottery, not the government.
Its currently called the 02 and is being used to stage events including several for the 2012 olympics.

The conflict in Iraq, immigration, Billions wasted on the NHS administration, photograph specialists, Afganistan, attempting to limit looking, giving the Euro rebate lower back. Labour is a waste of time. finished end.

I believe the Dome belongs to a private company O2, and is therefore nothing to do with the Government.

It's amazing that there is land in London that isn't used, They should turn it into a military base to protect London or something like that, that we need. Not another hospital though. Mabey something a bit different for tourists so lots more people will come here.

I think it should be a huge skating ring or a permanent circus tent where we can watch politicians act like clowns...wait a sec they do that anyway.
