It's difficult to come out of the broom closet nowadays, especially with all the misinterpretations and false facts passed on from generation to generation for thousands of years. But it is possible to do it gracefully. If you see the site in my sources, there are many articles with advice on how to do it. Look under "Young Pagan Essays". Google it, as well, if you like. You just to gain the courage and keep your cool, and they're bound to take you seriously. Don't mindlessly debate or be timid--say, hey, these are my beliefs, this is way of life, and I wanted to share this with you because we're friends and I'm trying to be open with you. This is a big part of my life. I'm not asking you to convert or anything like that, I'm just telling you.
Beware that they may not understand at first, and you might need to do some explaining about the truths of your path.
Hope I helped, Happy Imbolc, and Blessed Be!

I don't know how old you are, but I'll tell you this... To the average person, "wiccan" sounds scary.
I would first tell them you're into Meditation, and have been reading a lot of Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer on Manifesting Your Desires. Perhaps hold a Manifesting/Meditation Circle.
Then, after everyone's manifesting, and thinkiing it's cool, admit that you follow the lunar cycle, and use it to help manifest. And would they like to do a fire ceremony while you do that?
Now everyone thinks you're cool. Then one day one of your friends will be all "Do you have an enchantment or *cough* 'spell' for.....?" And you'll smile.
That's how you let people "Know".

yea i agree. the term wiccan is enough to scare the average people. I did a project on witchcraft back in school coz i was intrigued by it. I later learnt that its not that bad, in fact in a way they do believe in karma, like dun do to others what u dun want others to do to you thingy. There r things they practice that i agree and some that i dont. when u picked it as your religion, im sure uve weigh the consequences of it as well. perhaps you could slowly talk to her about what a wiccan is all about n more of your religion- casually. This is a subtle way of educating her as well. Slowly, im pretty sure she ll get the hint that ya one. Meanwhile the good news is, by the time she does, she ll have a clear idea what its all about and is in a more neutral stand to either accept you or not.

I consider myself to be a Christian, and my friend told me that she was Wiccan when we were Freshmans in high school. We're still friends, we agree to disagree. Sometimes I think she sees me as the crazy one for believing what I believe. I want her to go to Heaven, and I don't believe Wicca will get her to Heaven, but we will still be friends. If your friend is a true friend, they will agree to disagree. And if they ever try to change your mind, they are hopefully doing it out of love, because they want you to be in Heaven someday.
Good luck and (excuse the term) God bless!

i have a friend who's wiccan, and no one I know has ever made a big deal about it... Just tell your friend and be done with it. If she's truly your friend, she won't care.
you can always explain to your friend that just because YOU'RE wiccan doesn't mean she has to follow your practices.
good luck! =]

I wouldn't stay friends with anyone who didn't respect my beliefs. Tell them, if they can't respect you, make new friends who like you for who you are. Your religion is a part of that.

If they don't like it, cast a spell on them. They'll probably notice if you start wearing pentagrams like my sister did.
And the word is "devout"... just FYI.

Just say that you're "wiccan" and then recieve the chastising you deserve and want. You know you picked that religion because you want to be different.
