Still pretty good but once you've seen it running on an HDTV you'll be reaching for your credit card to get a new tv, The best game to showcase the graphics on HD is Gears of War in my opinion, awesome.

Better than any previous generation console (I say that since PS3 vs 360 is a toss up). I play on a 27 inch standard tube TV (why spend more than $100?) :). The main improvement in any console is the model complexity that the graphics engine can create. The current generation of consoles is just barely hitting the edge of the standard TV resolution with the model complexity they can generate (which is why they now support HD). Previous consoles weren't even close.
Everything basically just looks more realistic. I have an N64, Gamecube, Xbox (soon to be gone), Xbox 360, and PS2 with plans to get a Wii when they are normally stocked - the current generation blows everything out of the water (and remember, I have a normal TV). The best comparison is with an Xbox vs Xbox 360. I even borrowed an Xbox version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 and purchased 360 Project 8. It's basically night and day difference (that's why they still sell games for both consoles - anyone with a 360 will want the 360 version of the game, even though it's 10 bucks more). Movements are smoother, the game has much better visual depth, lighting is significantly improved, and shading is fantastic.
Don't question if the new generation of consoles is worth it even if you have a normal TV - they are DEFINITELY worth it.

The graphics are still excellent on a standard TV although some text in some games is a little blurry.
A good priced solution is getting the VGA cable and hooking up to a PC monitor as this gives HDTV quality at a fraction of the price.

any 360 game looks good, no matter what tv you have. but as soon as you can get hd the better. even a tv with the lowest hd will make your 360 games look 10 times better.

They look good. Although some of the games there is a problem, if they are designed for HD and have text appearently and can look way small. That is the comments some have had about Dead Rising.

It looks great. Its a big improvement from original Xbox and it still looks great on any television. You are definitely making the correct decision on which console to purchase.
