spell casting to me is more like praying to the God or Goddess.it is a way to connect to the Devine in more of a relationship.wanting to get closer.i do spells but not to harm no one.the casting is like sending the task into the universe through your own energy.and than afterwards the universe desides if the spell should manifest or not.hope this helps.

Casting a spell means this:
1) You decide you want something to happen. You think about it and make sure that it will hurt nobody, and that it robs nobody of his or her free will--for example, you want to help your sick grampa feel better, so you ask his permission first and he says, sure, cast a spell.
2) You use your knowledge of magical and natural energies to put together a specific ritual that will help you convey to yourself and the universe on a deep, almost subconscious level, what you want to happen. Rhymes help because they go "deeper" in our subconscious than regular language. Certain scents and colors might help. Certain gemstones might help. Using a picture of your grampa, or something that belongs to him, might help.
3) Depending on your tradition, you go through the steps of this ritual--perhaps you "cast a circle" and "call the elements" first. You raise energy, speak the words you've chosen, use the tools you've chosen, and command the universal elements to help your grandfather heal as he sees best, for the good of all and according to the free will of all. If you've cast a circle or called elements, you release them.

Then you go on with your life, secure that you've helped.

The only one who can make something bad hapen to you is YOU! The only other that can make things happen is GOD! He doesn't do this for bad reasons though.
