Willful non-participation is not apathy, it is anger and if Walmart get their way and we all become gun owners the following government will be anarchy.

Isn't that just another manifestation of nihilism?
I agree with you over a lot of what you say, particularly that local communities need greater autonomy, however in a world of increasing globalisation, I think it's unrealistic not to combine this with some kind of international rule.
It'll end up being a pyramid structure: global, international, national and local parliaments, all having to communicate. I don't see any future without this, like it or not. Emphasising the importance of local communities who understand their own needs better than anyone else, though, is increasingly important.
As for not voting as an expression of freedom, I completely disagree with you. Some people will still vote, and their opinion will still be counted. Standing as an independent, or going out and protesting or otherwise letting yourself be heard is the only way to express you views politically (other than posting on Yahoo and writing novels!). Silencing yourself just aint going to work.
As for nihilism, that's been doing the rounds since Turgenev and Nietzsche, and whilst still popular, remains an undercurrent. Academics might be proponents of it, but the majority of society prefer to make stress in their lives than to live with the boredom that would replace it. Sad but true.

That revolution has been ongoing for quite some time now. The only reason it isn't noticed is because nobody really cares. The government is a reflection of the will of the people and the result right now is a rather incompetent president and nearly as incompetent legislature.
The government isn't vicious minded or power hungry. The government we have today is the result of too many not caring about who minds the store.

You do know, surely, that those politicians whom you are ignoring are building real live concentration camps for people just like you. The one almost completed near Fairbanks, Alaska alone will hold 2 million people, not illegal aliens, not terrorists, but, according to the official new U.S. Army documents, the new camps being built are for U.S. citizens who become "unruly" when martial law goes into affect. I've seen the new laws related to the concentration camps. I'm a scholar. I couldn't believe any of this. It's for real. They are to be forced labor camps. The apathetic will be the most desireable and compliant worker, I'm sure. Heil Bush.

You would need 100% apathy to succeed, anything less and you give more power to the cretins that rule us.

Opting out of the system will never work for it is all we know.
Control can only be taken, it is not given over to us.
So although I think we feel the same, I would have to disagree
