My laptop uses an 11.1 inch screen... and it makes all those 14" monsters look really huge and coarse resolution.

Why do I use such a small laptop screen? the whole thing comes in at 1.25Kg without CD and floppy, so it's great for travelling. Plus it runs at 1024x768 pixel resolution so it's got as much information onn it as a typical 14" screen.

I'd say, if you're not worried about the weight of the laptop you want to go for the best resolution you can... a 14" 1024x768 pixel screen isn't much worse than a 15.4" 1024x768 pixel screen... but a 14" 1024x768 is a lot less desktop area than a 15.4" 1600x1200 pixel screen. But the 15.4" one will be a fair bit heavier. Oh, and everything else being equal a 15.4" will use more power to run it so will have a shorter battery life.

Have a look at them, see if you're happy with the size of the icons and text... it's largely down to your eyes. See if you're happy with the weight... try carrying a bag weighted to be the same as the smaller and the larger, see if you can bear the weight for the screen size increase.

Get a tape measure and measure 14 inches diagnolly and that is how big a 14" monitor is. Now do the same thing but this time measure in 15.4 inches that is how much bigger it is from the 14 inch..

e veryone has different eyes and opinions on these things, no point in asking about it. Go to Cost Co or Office epot and look at them face to face an be honest iwth yourself: do you wanna spend hours looking at this thing? Is the text too small? can you handle enlarging it, etc.

generally, 14 inch is fine for web browsing, emails... but if your'e doing acaemic research... uhhh... that's alot of eye strain. If you're doing digital pictures and haneling large amoutns of data, you might want a larger screen.

Thana gain, if you travel alot, and want to carry oyur laptop with you ebverywhere, 14 inch is the way to go, it saves a couple of ounces, which in turn saves your shoulders and neck.

hmm, i really doubt that. Though the 15.4 is really convenient to read stuff. I think smaller screens are to be used by people who do a lot of work while commuting and hence carrying bigger laptops is a hassle.

I have a 14 inch monitor on my Acer laptop and I'm very happy with it.
It causes no eye strain at all, but I am Chinese and have squinty eyes anyhow.

Hahhaaaa!
