Number 1 offers a clue. Facia can be primarily for aesthetics, but too it depends on the roof type.

With a roof that extends minimally the "facia" seals off the top run around a structure, allowing a barrier against weather.

On a roof with a longer/deeper extension one might see bare rafter ends, that have no facia covering. At the structure itself the siding may extend all the way to the rafters.

As number 2 suggests, certainly some form of ventilating should also exist, for any space above the living area.

Of course you're going to get CALLS,,, Smiles. the salesmen cruise neighborhoods looking to make a sale, and might especially "target" a house in some stage of construction/repair/replacement. For now, and since you've already invested money in painting, I suggest you don't need immediate replacement, but I do agree that a quality vinyl is the way to go, or aluminum.

BTW not all roofs are "Guttered"

Fascia covers the ends of the roof rafters and provides a nailer for the gutters. If you recently painted, I'd leave them be, when the time comes for another paint job you can have them wrapped in aluminum instead. Then you'll have many years of maintainance free fascias.

Fascia is generally decorative hiding the end of the roof joists etc. Don't be talked into expensive upgrading unless your wood is in really bad condition.

It is for attaching your guttering to, also to prevent birds etc., entering loft space. Some properties do have open eaves(no fascia) where it is harder to fix guttering and the exposed underside of roof would therefore need to be boarded.

Material is your preference but plastic is less maintenance.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/10WEn
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

This allows the house to "breathe". Move air in and around the underside of the roof. Keeps house warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

You need the Telephone Preference Service, they will stop all these useless cowboys phoning you and making a nuisance of themselves.

Appearance is the only purpose--it depends on what you like--GOOD vinyl will last longer than wood--be careful what you buy
