Actually that will make your clothes last longer and look new longer. Especially things that are dry clean or fine clothing like the kind you have to lay flat to dry. No you don't have to wash it if it's still clean.

Anything close to the body should be washed before putting it away. Natural oils in your body will be absorbed by the clothing and if put away may attach moths and other cloth eating rodents. Also the oils may break down the fabric of the clothing. Items worn away from your body(Like if you where an undershirt or long john shirt under it), suck as sweaters and jackets may not have to be cleaned as often. All items should always be dry cleaned or washed before putting them away for the season. Obciously, always do the smell test. Although I have known people who can't smell their own Body Odor so this may not always work.

If it has direct contact with your skin it should be washed. I would suggest wearing under shirts. And then hanging up your clothes after wearing if they are still visibly clean. Maybe a short spritz of Febreeze would help also.

You will smell and look fresher if you wash your clothes often. My rule of thumb: In cooler climates: Wash shirts after 2 wears.
Wash jeans/pants after 1 wear.

In warmer climates: Wash shirts after 1 wear.
Wash jeans/pants after 1 wear.

Socks and under garments should be washed after each wear.

If you wear something, you should wash it unless you had it on for just a few hours.
