In old books I read of boys and men whistling merrily as they went about their daily business. Do people not whistle anymore?

I guess I am from the old school as i whistle everyday to pass time.And I still whistle at a nice looking female.but don't let my wife find out.

there was an old saying - "whistle while you work"
those were simpler days - for the most part - people whistle "if" they are happy and content. In todays world (although people may be happy and content - some anyway) they are forever concentrating on what it is they have to do next - like after work "pick-up the kids" or etc.......
that is a huge distraction from the pleasantry of a musical thought that translates into a whistle.
whistlers are generally very secure in themselves people - that's why they are thinking of a pleasant tune and "NOT" the "neighbor" or the "ex" that they loath.

Not since the days of Roger Whittaker has whistling been popular. If you whistle nowadays on your way to work you'd get sectioned.

Alot of older men whistle, but younger seem to not think it's "cool" for some reason.

No.People seem to look at me strangely when I whistle.I must be a crazy or one of those mentals.You know,the ones what don't think proper!
