I am using an Ameda machine breast pump to pump breastmilk every 3 hours, how often do I have to sterilize my equipment? Is it after each pump?

You should wash with plain dish detergent after each time you pump OR store the pump in the fridge (just the parts that touch the milk) then you can keep pumping into the same collection bottle.

You could sterilize it once a day, if desired, this will help prevent problems.

BUT when I was in the special care nursery (1 step down from the NICU) all we used was dish detergent.

I have the same pump, and have been using it every 4 hours for the last 2 months. Before I pump I fill the sink up halfway with hot soapy water, then when I'm done I disassemble everything and just throw it into the sink to soak. After the last pump of the day I sterilize the parts so they're clean and sterile for the next days use. It's not necessary to sterilize everything after each pump though. I also recommend buying an extra set or two of all the parts (you can get them at babybungalow.com) so that you don't have to keep washing and reusing the same set. It saves a bit of time since you can start out your day with 2 or 3 clean sets of everything.

The training that got here with my pump suggested to sterilize it until now the 1st time I used it and then to in basic terms wash with dish cleansing soap and water or interior the dishwasher and enable it air dry and canopy while no longer in use. I generally wash it after i take advantage of it and basically placed it on a towel to dry and canopy it up with area of the towel until i might desire to apply it. I in basic terms sterilize it each 2 weeks or so, or if i did no longer get a huge gamble to bathe it presently when I used it and its sat around for a whilst i will sterilize it.

They say you should after each pump but I never did. I steralized it once a day. I think if you give it a good cleaning and not go threw the hole prosess of steralizing it. I feel you should be fine. My son and I never had problems doing it that way.

Yes indeed, you have to sterilize it after each use. Remember that "old milk residue" can make baby sick.
