Which is actually correct? I have also seen light vs. lite, as well as other variations of other words. Can someone explain this?

Through = finished
Thru = internet lingo shortcut or as in "Drive Thru"

Light = illumination or opposite of heavy
Lite = internet lingo shortcut and can be used to describe foods with less fat or sugar

Thru and Lite are not actual words.
Through and Light are.

Also nite vs night. I believe through is correct as is the longer spelling of each of the other words. I guess people got lazy.

"Through" is the correct form of this word. "Thru" is part of some dialects and used in the abbreviated form in friendly letters, emails and text messages. In formal writing, always use "through".

this is due to texting and such
"thru" is not a word. is is spelled "through"
"lite" can be used in talking about food, but "light" is something that comes from a lamp

through is correct, the other variations that you see everywhere are the shortforms used by one and all for chatting and sms
