I don't think it's lost it's excitement because knockout football is the best form of football out there. Then coupled with the fact that any team can enter, like a university team, they could try and scape through the first few rounds and potentially play their premiership idols. I still love tuning in to bbc1 every monday at 1.30 pm after an fa cup weekend to see what match ups are made. Plus remember we get to see the first ever fa cup final at the new wembley stadium which looks amazing!

I think football on the whole has lost excitement as it's the same teams winning the trophies. The FA cup was better a few years back when there were surprise winners on a regular basis, Sunderland, Southampton, West Ham, Coventry and Wimbledon for example but for the past 11 years only the top 4 have won it and that is not good for the competition or the game as a whole.

Do all people on here go to live cup games and feel the atmosphere inside the grounds? I was at every cup game that West Ham played last year. The games were brilliant, the atmosphere superb, the players commitment 100%.
The day out at the final, the atmosphere in the streets of Cardiff before the game, and the match itself will live me forever.
Smaller clubs rely on the FA Cup to bring them revenue, which saves them going broke and into liquidation. Try telling one of them that there is no excitement or romance in the cup. Lower league players dream of a match at a Premier League club.
The FA Cup will go on forever. Crowds are up this year too.

I'm afraid that the FA cup never had any excitement in the first place. Have never undrstood how people could get so excited about men chasing a ball. Particuilarly after watching some of the horrendous matches in the World Cup. Most of their time was spend p***ing about seeing who could injure who.

There is certainly too much money in football but the FA cup still gives the chance for lesser teams to compete with their richer peers. Unfortunately there seem to have been less shocks this year but listening to Middlesbrough hanging on against Bristol C on Saturday - how is that not exciting?

no i still think its exciting as there isn't any other competition that allows the showcasing of lower league clubs and the potential of some upsets and giant killings. manu vs southend for example! on any given day any team can be good enough to beat another! and fo me thats got draw, besides only a handfull of other clubs make it to the champs league. its not always about the big four! teams like mill wall and west ham that arent the best get to taste the limelight! thats good for football and the viewers!

Yes it has...absolutely.
Football itself has lost its excitement. The players are little more than soap-opera characters, and there is no longer any morality or virtue in the game. Nothing is funny anymore and the pundits are clearly having to avoid reality when they talk about what is important in the game. For example, going on about tiffs between Wenger and Ferguson when the game is being taken over by business interests that will turn it into a fiasco like wrestling!

No i dont think so, you still get the upsets from lower teams getting through, but unfortunatly this year the draws havnt been that good so there has not really been a great deal of excitement

I still love Cup Final day but I sometimes wonder if all football suffers when there is so much of it on TV.
