I used to be like that when I was younger but I was never the type of person that said the really mean sarcastic stuff. I know a few people that are almost too sarcastic and it really gets on my nerves after awhile. I know they are joking but part of me thinks it's a sly way of putting people down but being able to get away with it because it's a 'joke'. I don't think it's really a personal thing, more like the person has low self esteem and that's how they deal with it. I try to avoid people that are overly sarcastic to me because it does make me feel bad even if it's a 'joke'.

I am sometimes described as a sarcastic, i just kinda say it like it needs to be said, sometimes a little to much, or i play sarcastic, sometimes to break up the monotney of group, kinda like breaking the silence, or lightening up the mood. I like to have fun, therefor if i think sarcasm will liven up the place- i go for it. SORRY, that you are so sensitive, I used to be YOU, that is why I can sympathise, because I have been in and out of your shoes. You just have to have courage to jump in and not be the sore loser anymore. Attitude is a big part of it but the biggest part of it is SELF ESTEEM. If you can walk into a room and feel like you are the best thing in it, you have accomplished the biggest part, and you don't have to be sarcastic to do that. GET LOOSE.

I am sarcastic, but I know when to shut up, or when there's someone who doesn't get it I usually try to be a little more considerate of their feelings
although if they don't get it, I feel like I'm wasting my time, I wanna have friends who are on the same level
there is a thin line between being sarcastic and funny and being sarcastic and just plain mean

On page 1,374 of Collins English dictionary, the word SARCASM is defined as "mocking, contemptuous, or ironic language intended to convey scorn or insult."

And just because I have a degree in English language, I can bore you with the rather unpleasant info that the word 'sarcasm' has its root in the Greek 'sarkasmos' from the original word 'sarkazein' meaning TO REND THE FLESH.

Sarcasm is rarely meant kindly, and usually is an attack on what the deliverer sees as a weaker victim. When done in public it's a form of bullying, displayed to earn approval from the rest of the group. It ain't smart, it ain't clever, and unless you're Oscar Wilde, it's rarely funny.

My grandmother was a simple lady and always said in situations like these "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." Makes sense to me.

There's a big difference in being sarcastic for fun and using it as a way of being passive aggressive..my sister in law is one of those people that says hurtful things to everyone around her in the name of sarcasm..when you call her on it she says"sheesh, cant you take a joke?"...I think people like her may truly like the other person but are unhappy with themselves and it just kind of spills over..I've said to her "gee, you sound bitter today, anything you want to get off your chest?" She usually gets the hint that she's being too over-the-top

you can't give your power to others. by allowing anyone, be it a sarcastic joker or not to get your goat your giving your power to them.
try not to be so sensitive. remember life is too short. the more someone knows it bothers you the more they will do it.
Last of all, laugh at something.

People use sarcasim as a way to avoid their low self esteem. The best way to handle them is either ignore them or give them a witty comeback.

If you realize they are insecure, it makes dealing with them a lot easier.

I can handle it pretty well, but if I thought they were over-doing it, I'd play them at their own game and use sarcastic defence techniques.

My boyfriend is like that. I do have times when I'm overly sensitive and he hurts my feelings. Mostly though I just take it as it was meant...all in fun.
