You are not compressing a cd to make it mp3 format. When an audio CD is created it converts whatever extension music the songs are whether mp3, wma and converts it to a format CD players can read, most can't read mp3. When you make a data CD and put all mp3's on it then you are creating a mp3 CD, in no way in the CD compressed but rather saved in the mp3 format which does not take up as much space as the converted file that an audio cd has made, hence why you can fit alot of songs on a mp3 CD. You must have a CD player that can read MP3's, this is no problem if yo udo it in your computer, but your car cd player must have mp3 capabilities, as well as your home dvd/cd player..

DIsclaimer: Converting songs on a commercial, copyrighted CD is a crime and could get you fined or imprisoned.

If the material you want to copy is not compyrighted"
Start by using Media Player to rip the songs off the CD and on to your hard drive.
Get an audio editor that will allow you to convert from wav to mp3 (Check http://download.com for some free ones).
Burn the new mp3 files back to a CD, but do it as a DATA CD, not audio CD, or it will reconvert them back to wav (cda) format.
