XP won't run directX 10 so if you it won't take long for XP to become 'too old' to run higher end games. Plus, Vista is a real resource hog making it difficult to run on older machines.

I would delay making the change as long as possible so the bugs get ironed out before you buy.

Not a whole lot of differences, once of the big differences were that vista will shut down all its BS services, that MS is notorious for running, when starting a high process app. Besides that it just looks prettier, more user friendly..

Uhm... Vista is better I think 'cause it's the latest OS of Microsoft.
