Both interests, when nurtured wisely, will cause synergy in your spirit.

Later: Yes, start now. You have the advantage of supportive parents. Yet, at sixteen, with smarts, you can make adult level decisions and plans. So, plan. Have your voice assessed by a professional singing coach. Hire the best one you can afford for one consultation. If you can afford voice , music and acting lessons, begin them now. I recommend, strongly, homeschooling which, when managed efficiently, will allow you to AP through your first two years of college by the time you normally would have just completed your high school degree work. Work hard at the pre-requisites for the tougher engineering courses up ahead. Look at University of Phoenix on-line for those first four semesters of fluff stuff and focus on your performance studies of music, voice, acting, all while you are still living at home. Work smart, not stressed. Cut back on your social life while you get into a sensible but concentrated and focused schedule and pace. At your age, men have commanded armies and led nations. Follow your dreams, kid. At your age, you have more smarts and strength and energy than any other human group or age.

i have a smilier problem, but i want to be a author, and being a author it's not likely I'd be able to make a real good living, but I'm still going to be one.
you can do both, have a job that pays the bills(when you have some) and do what you love simply cause you love it. i mean you could pay the bills with singing but just like with writing it's a long shot, I'm still going to be an author tho...you should be a singer too. i mean there is nothing wrong with being a singing engineer.^_^

you can do a double major in college, or a single and check out student activities for opportunities for singing.

checkout the colleges you want to attend, see what is offered, not just academics but the activities that you want to involve your self in.

Remember unless your dead, you have time. I know of college grads that returned to college to continue alternative dreams.

Do what you love, just don't give up trying, once you really want to do,where there is love and inspiration, i don't think you can go wrong.

Don't do what your parents want you to do, do what you want to do. Be a singer.
