Dolphins have an appealing look and are social animals, plus they are very intelligent and very curious creatures. Especially the popular bottlenose dolphin has that permanent smile on his face so they always look happy. They always seem to have an interest in us almost as much as we do in them. Plus those in aquariums are easily trained. Thanks to the popularity of the show Flipper, this gave us our belief of dolphins as friendly animals, but do remember those in the wild should not be approached since they are wild animals and if they feel threatened they'll defend themselves.

See article below.

Dolphins are aquatic mammals that are closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin in seventeen genera. They vary in size from 1.2 m (4 ft) and 40 kg (88 lb) (Maui's Dolphin), up to 9.5 m (30 ft) and ten tonnes (the Orca). They are found worldwide, mostly in the shallower seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, mostly eating fish and squid. The family Delphinidae is the largest in the Cetacea, and relatively recent: dolphins evolved about ten million years ago, during the Miocene. Dolphins are considered to be amongst the most intelligent of animals and their often friendly appearance and seemingly playful attitude have made them popular in human culture.

I think a dolphin is commonly explained as friendly because of its caring nature and domestic behaviour.. I think a dolphin appears more friendly compared to the other sea creatures and dolphins just have a nice, innocent look about them..

Dolphins aren't they smartest sea-mamal in the world, but they are playful, and only attack when they are feeling threatened. Stories about dolphins pushing small life boats to shore have been told but they haven't been proven to be smarter than a monkey. Dolphins are endangered, and there is one breed that has only 5-6 left its kind, they are in captivity and they hope to breed them back into a plentiful breed. Dolphins are also the only other mamals besides humans who... well... have sex for fun. That makes them pretty friendly. Haha. Dolphins are like other animals, they don't really know how to be compassionate to humans but they know that most people like them and aren't afraid to say hello. Dolphins do tricks that people train them to do in tanks when free in the ocean, but people have whistles at different pitches to signal they were doing something good. Dolphins are fun-loving.

Scientifically, dolphins have an innocent and calm feeling about them, but these creatures are thought to be friendly because there have been programmes to study the 'King of the Ocean' and it has been found that the dolphins and the whales are like fellow migrants and they fight to protect each other and even giving up their lives. So these intelligent species are thought to be happy , carefree , smart and of course, friendly!

Dolphins are mamal that have brain development and are raised from the mother and father, staying family at all time if not seperated. The development of such anamal makes then friendly to others and are willing to learn from the environment all the times and changing all the time.
Much have to learn from these mamals.
Polution and global warming is what you should be asking that kills dolphins.

They seem to interact with humans in a friendly manner. Apart from that they look cute and innocent to some people. This would explain the popularity of stained glass shaped like dolphins in tourist or alternative shops.

Dolphin are intelligent. Some friendly but they are a 10 foot preditor, and people tend to forget that part. They can be aggressive and have been known to kill people especially when under stress or being tormented. Swimming with dolphins is risky. In the wild they have been known to kill large sharks and with echo-location they can see into your body cavity, so they know right where to hit to make a fatal blow. They are cute so they don't get the reputation like a snarly looking shark. They simply deserve respect and I think thier intelligence is comparable to ours. I think like people they live in complex societies and some are nice and others are not. Scientists have filmed males taking calves and killing them, coperative "kidnapping" females from their pods to force them to mate (looks like rape), even one time they filmed what looked like dolphin war with many dolphins banded together against other pods. There is so much we do not know about their wild lives. I find them facinating.

I agree with Critterman, however there are certainly animals that can be considered far more friendly (or at least curious) than others when they do overcome their apprehensions. Red fox are especially friendly towards humans, as well as a number of other canine species. Monkeys can be very playful with humans, and now i seem to be drawing a number of blanks, but there are countless other animals that i just can't recall at the moment.

A Dolphin has a brain as good as the humans. They communicate between themselves and they are the only creatures other than chimpanzee and humans to recognize themselves in a mirror. They eat small fish but they do not harm anybody else.
