I have visited Australia often and more so in the last 15 years. They have a 20% of the 20 million population there with huge gambling problems. It is actually worse than anywhere in the world. This scourge brings alongside itself, other social curses such as money laundering, drug rings, and prostitution. It can in my experience only be a very destructive thing to any society. The UK has more than enough social problems already and this will compound them all. The introduction of these hell dens is all, once again about revenues and capitalist gains aimed at a vulnerable "hope to get lucky" mass. For once can the UK public not rally in high numbers in their cities and towns to demand that these places do not get to exist!! Believe me,you will all be so sorry when they take hold here. To see the dire effects of this permissive gaming in Australia would stagger anyone. How can they be stopped ?

The government wants the extra tax revenue so no matter whet we do the will keep making super casinos. I to have seen the gambling problems down under and share your concerns.
Scratch cards are bad enough but a mega-casino is much worse.
All we can do to help is make people aware of the dangers of gambling more than they can afford to.

Time for you to wake up people are already doing it on the net and the government wants a piece of the action and lets face it just as well them as private individuals. Besides, you can go in there and get free food and drink and not gamble at all.

People like you always want to ban things. Build a wall and lock yourself in or better still just top yourself if you are so afraid of life.

I think it's disgraceful but just knew a northern city would be chosen. Why would London want more crime/mafia moving in. The holier than thou posters should be ashamed of seemingly being compassionless for people less strong than themselves. Gambling is a terrible addiction and causes misery to the gambler and his/her family

I am not a gambler so I don't care. But why stick it in chav central? Not a good advert for business is it? Win £10,000 and get mugged for it when you leave! Then again I suppose they need somewhere different to spend the giro.

Giving this to Manchester has got to be one of the biggest political fixes I've heard of next to Shilpa winning CBB.

Wouldn't bother me, i don't go to those places.

Someone who gets addicted to gambling, must already have problems i mean come on addicted to a casino.

Heard of using your own free will, or self control?

It beggars belief, to me for wholesale change in the gambling laws. You see people gambling their dole money away in the bookie's,and arcades already. Our own casino industry say it will increase problem gambling! and didn't want it.

There's going to be a problem with everything humans create.

People are addicted to the Internet, television, cigarettes, alcohol, Oxycontin, music... Whatever.
