You won't be routinely called for a smear test in the UK till you are 25. This is because of the high rates of false positives in younger women. However, you should be able to request one earlier from your dr.

You should go six months after your first sexual experience, in other words you should have gone when you were 17.
The NHS recommends smear tests once every 3 years but I think that is not often enough. A LOT can happen in 3 years. In the US it is recommended every year, and once every 6 months if you have an abnormal result.

i'm in Scotland too and function had 2 smear tests the two got here lower back ok - I continuously save as much as this element with them, whether you do circulate away your dignity on the door yet they're so well worth it in the long-term. I do think of the age ought to be decreased in England to comparable to Scotland, Jade Goody has further cervical maximum cancers into the popular public eye and made women individuals greater attentive to what can ensue in case you do no longer decide for cervical smears. this is totally unhappy that Jade died so youthful and left 2 ideal boys in the back of without their mom yet she has executed lots for women individuals concerning this each and every so often taboo subject, via fact as you mentioned each and every physique thinks "this is going to by no skill ensue to me". xxx

Best to get it done to be on the safe side, it's not as bad as you think! I've had it done quite a few times cos I've got endometriosis. Check with the doc next time you're there, my male doctor normally does mine, but you can ask for the nurse if you'd like a female to do it. Hope all goes well.

You should have had one at 18 once you became sexually active.
Then every three years.
