Diplomacy? It will only work when all sides desire a genuine end to conflict and truly want a peaceful resolution. As long as radical Islam's goal is to kill the infidels, I don't think were going to get here........just an opinion

Bush sent US forces to attack the inviolate territory of a foreign diplomatic mission, the Iranian mission in northern Iraq - legally, the land of a foreign nation - and took the Iranians hostage. It's hard to see under international law how this is legal, let alone how this isn't an act of war. And it's beyond ironic that we appear to have condoned the very action that we condemned Iran for - attacking diplomatic missions in violation of international law.
But what's most troubling about this is the transparency of what Bush is up to. He's trying to provoke a war with Iran, either by forcing Iran to strike back, or by discovering secret Iranian diplomatic documents that would prove their complicity in helping the insurgents in Iraq. We just invaded Iran last night, folks. Foreign embassies and diplomatic outposts are legally the foreign soil of the country represented. We invaded Iran. This is an act of war.
Only problem with Bush's plan? How exactly are we going to fight a war with Iran? Our generals told us we didn't even have enough troops to meet the needs of Bush's new escalation plan (the plan called for 32,000 more troops, the generals said we only have 22,000 or so available, that's it.) So where exactly will we get the troops to fight a new war with Iran, at the same time we're fighting a civil war in Iraq, and fighting an increasingly bad civil war in Afghanistan? Our worst nightmare would be Iran calling Bush's bluff and invading Iraq. So, why is it then that this is exactly what Bush is trying to provoke?
It's increasingly looking like Bush is more interested in provoking the coming Rapture than solving the multiple crises in the Middle East.
This is incredibly serious. Bush may have just given every country in the world justification for attacking US diplomats, attacking US diplomatic posts and embassies, and taking our diplomats hostage. Then again, he already gave the world a green light to torture our soldiers, so why not add American diplomats to the mix.

I think you haven't been paying attention, or you don't know what you're talking about.
The "total jerk" as you put it sent VP Cheney to Saudi Arabia in November to talk to the oil people, and in case you were too busy thinking up rotten things to say about the President, oil prices have been steadily dropping since, in spite of protests from OPEC.
Iran depends on exports of oil for it's money but it's the world's 4th largest importer of gasoline because it has little refining capability. So it's exports are bringing in less money. Add the UN sanctions that the "total jerk" arranged and now you see Iran with an inflation rate that's hovering at around 50%. Last week I heard the Grand Ayatolla denouncing Ahmadinijhad as a fool and saying that he's losing confidence in him. I expect that it won't be too much longer before that guy winds up with a bullet behind his ear.
So diplomacy doesn't work and the President is a total jerk, or would that description be more apt to fit YOU??

Ahmadinejad is spouting rhetoric. It's a cultural thing that nobody over there takes literally. If they toss a nuke at Israel, the Israelis will flatten them with their own nukes and they know that. We can't even control Iraq so how are we going to take Iran, which has 3 times the population?
We can't invade North Korea. The Chinese won't sit there and let us do that.
Containment and diplomacy is the key.

It may or may not. But, as you correctly pointed out with N. Korea, we have played this game with that regime for a long while now. The end result is that N. Korea is on the point of collapse, with most of the nation starving and dissent growing through the ranks.
If we impose the same or even harsher restrictions on Iran, I think they will have a similar fate.

Ahmadenijhad talks tough for what he thought was political gain. But he was wrong. The Iranians elected a new Tehran City Council (the group that elected the President) and the politicians they voted for DON'T like Ahmadenijhad. He'll be out soon.

Sadly diplomacy wil not work so easily but we have to try. I think the only way in my opinion is to ask the Saudi's to broker a peace treaty. They carry alot of influence over the Islamic world.

No. Diplomacy doesn't work with bullies. The only language they understand is a bloody nose. The question is, who gives it to them?
I don't think its necessary to bash the President for diplomacy. We cannot have it both ways.

These people believe two things. It's ok to lie to the infidel (us), and diplomacy is a sign of weakness.
