I have booked a holiday to Hersonissis in Crete in May. I have never been to Greece and I am taking the Travel Agents word for it that it is quiet. We are 64 and 59 and we don't want to be in a noisy resort. Can anyone tell me if they have been and is it suitable for people our age group?

My husband and I went to Hersonisoss in Crete and had a wonderful holiday We stayed at Knossos Royal Hotel and it was fabulous the people friendly and helpful. You need to check if your hotel is on a hill as ours was and although the work down to the town was nice it was steep and at night you took your life in your hands with the mental drivers as the road was not lit very well. There are places to visit if you hire a car especially Agois Nicolias which we stayed at 2 years ago.Have a lovely time but check hotel location

I have to disagree. I went there for a conference a couple of summers ago and found it to be an extremely noisy seaside resort, especially in the centre along the sea front, with a crowded beach and lots of crammed developments, unfinished buildings, etc. At the time I was staying in a near deserted bay (Agios Pavlos) on the south coast and I found my few days in Hersonissos quite a contrast - lots of noisy clubs, loads of tourists, a bit of a mess really. I'm not saying you won't like it though. It depends where you stay and how close to the centre you are. The conference hotel, for example, was very nice indeed and had a kind of private bit of beach. Good luck anyway!

I spent a month in Hersonissos last March, at the Terra Maris. While I was, admittedly, there during the off-season, May shouldn't be significantly noisier than the quietness we experienced. It does have a strip along the sea with several bars and restaurants where I would imagine a significant nightlife would make it a tourist destination for other age groups, but that area is removed from the majority of the hotels, so it shouldn't bother you. Hersonissos is an excellent choice for you.
