Definatly manual.
They have more power then autos, you have more controll over your vehicle with a manual also, and it gives you somthing to do so you have something to concentrate on.
I have found autos to be less challenging, boring to drive and some are totally gutless up hills.
But i will say that a manual is no good for city driving, you would go through clutches very quickly.

I've had both and I definitely prefer the Manual. Interacting with the clutch and throttle and gearbox makes the whole experience more visceral.
I drive a Mercedes sedan with automatic naw, and I swear I could just drift off to sleep sometimes ... there's little feedback.
In fact, I think I'll sell the thing this week! I miss my sports car!

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU DRIVE. WHAT YOU PERFER IS OFTEN NOT WHAT IS APPROPRIATE FOR TRANMISSION TYPE FOR A GIVEN CAR . MOST PEOPLE WHO DRIVE A BUICK ARE OLDER--DO NOT WANT TO SHIFT ANYMORE. HOW THE CAR WILL BE DRIVEN WILL DICTATE TRANSMISSION CHOICE--AUTO IF YOU DRIVE IN ALOT OF TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG TRANSMISSION CHOICE-- ALL PRETTY SUBJECTIVE--VERY LITTLE BASED IN FACT.

I drive an automatic now. I learned on a stick shift and I much prefer to drive one of them. They are much better made vehicles.

A standard is always the best bet as long as you can use one you will get better mileage due to it having less friction and slippage and it also has fewer working parts which means there is less to go wrong!
