Experts and professionals say that we are economically, medically, and socially better off now then we ever were. Are we?

I disagree. In many ways we were not as stressed as we are today. Economically we didn't require the variety of purchased goods as we seem to today and we were on the gold standard which kept prices quite stable. Technology carries many stressful factors with it including overchoice in every concern, Enviromental issues such as Global Warming were unknown a hundred years ago. Medically speaking the world has always had its dramas: there are periodic episodes of plagues, diseases, war, cures and resurgencies. However, never before [to my knowlege] have we been constantly bombarded with the actual sights of war fought away from home; advertisements for drugs, medical tests, educational awareness programs and the like. And that in the face of large populations who cannot afford medical care or medical insurance. We have so many families homeless! on the street, with little or no compassion even from the churches. It seems unsurmountable.
We have bred up many bacteria strains to lethal potential and are on the brink of disaster with world pandemic that polio could never reach.
Life was slower and more satisfying. People had time to visit with friends and engage in simple home-based activities. So socially people were more connected than they are today. Today we are fragmented by the multiple choice tecnological devises that compete for the same number of hours in the day that existed 100 years ago..many of these isolate us from any contact with each other.

These are just some of the concerns I have and also have heard from seniors in assisted living facilities.

No, we are not. Many years ago and where I lived in the country, people did not have the stress and medical problems of today. Before you say that they just didn't know what was wrong, most of the folks in my area lived 80-100 and lived fairly independent lives. Socially, people were just good friends and neighbors.

Of course, 100 years ago you would have been trying to scrape by on your farm to produce enough food to feed your horde of kids, whilst your wife slaved from sun up till sun down washing and cooking and helping you. You would have probably only would have seen the neighbours or anyone for that matter on sunday morning at church. And you would die at about 40 from some horrible disease like thyphoid. Half your kids would never make 5 as they would have died from diseases and you are lucky if your wife didn't die in child birth.

Clearly, if by we you mean the average person, whether that is true compared with 30 years ago is a different matter.

To the guy who responded me before: specific. in comparison to McCain. in comparison to declare all and sundry else who's extra appropriate qualified and needs to do extra for us? he's a turd. that is yet another extensive Douche and Turd Sandwich election. To the OP: Vote self reliant. all and sundry does suck, and the media basically covers 2 factors of the story. i became conversing politics to a distinctive individual and while she advised me she could no longer %. McCain or Obama, I asked her if she would desire to vote for a third-party, and he or she asked me what that became. unhappy international. The media basically needs you to confirm what they like you to confirm. They continually instruct "information" yet they hardly ever submit evidence. we prefer extra public get right of entry to television like CSPAN.
