Firstly memory is a HUGE area of research so there's not much point in any of us reeling off a list of memory studies because there are literally thousands (due to memory being one of the first areas to be studied in psychology). I'm not sure exactly what type of memory you are researching but I'm guessing it's nothing too elaborate and so you're looking for quite a simple style of experiment.

I would highly recommend studying mnemonics (techniques believed to improve memory storage and retrieval). A very simple mnemonic study would involve word pair memory. A word memory study can easily be created on paper although works better on computer (specifically powerpoint).
Here's how you do it:
Create a list of 30 random word pairs (chair-pen, bus-apple, snail-teddy...) and type these word pairs into 30 powerpoint slides (one pair per slide). Repeat this by typing the same 30 word pairs in the same order onto 30 more slides (but NOT within the same slide show as the other 30 word pairs) and this time add pictures to accompany the word pairs (like a snail sitting on a teddy for snail-teddy). This is easily done using clip art pictures and you can even choose your word pairs from the clip art available to you. Next you need to create one final slideshow which again has 30 slides but only the FIRST word from each word pair is on the slides. Set the slides in each slideshow to appear for about 5-8 seconds then automatically change to the next slide.
You would have 2 sets of participants, and you would tell them all that they are going to watch a short slideshow and that they have to pay attention and attempt to memorise the word pairs as they will then have to recall them. The first group (say 10 students from the year below you) watch the slideshow with the word pairs that dont have pictures, the second group (another 10 students from the year below you) get to watch the other slide show, which has the same word pairs and in the same order as the other group, but which also have the accompanying images. Finally all of your participants watch the same final slideshow, where only the first word from each word pair is shown and they then have to write down (on a piece of paper numbered from 1-30 is fine) the accompanying word (please note NO images are present in the final slideshow).
It is highly likely that the the participants who watched the slideshow with the images will recall more word pairs than those who were only shown the word pairs and not the images aswell. If you know how to use powerpoint, this is a VERY easy study to conduct. All you need to ensure is that the same words pairs are used for both the image and no image conditions and that the word pairs are all in the same order and that the final slideshow also has the single words appearing in the same order as they did in the other 2 slideshows. This is best done with one participant at a time, but wouldn't take too long. It's also best to do the recall exercise (where only one of the words from the word pairs are shown ) a few mintutes after the first one-give your participants maybe 2 mintues to relax, then proceed with the recall exercise.

I highly recommend studying mnemonics in this way, as you can be almost guaranteed to get a significant result. If you have any queries about what I've said feel free to email me.

Good Luck with your study whatever you choose to do!

I did a memory test in an assessment centre last year and it worked really well. I got it from a book called "Use Your Memory" by Tony Buzan and it's in the chapter on Link Systems. The Test itself is how to remember a shopping list and I read out the list first then a story detailing everything on the shopping list. After reading it I asked everyone to write down the list and everyone got 100%. It's fun to do and will keep them entertained, so there's more chance of them succeeding. Good luck in whatever you decide.

How about doing something to do with emotionality of words its what I just done last year!. You have around 20 positive and 20 negative words and flash them on a screen for no more than 3 seconds per word and at the end they write down as many as they can remember. You can also talk alot about this in your report.
e.g .....where they feeling happy/sad before the experiment? which may of helped them to recall words better etc.
Or you could even do picture cards this is rather popular tho same as the words but pics!
Good luck on what ever you decide.

It depends what feature of memory you're looking at - if you want to study memory span, then try using the Brown-Peterson paradigm, which involves reading out lists of single digits and getting people to repeat them back in order, seeing how many they can recall. If you're looking at how order affects memory you could try replicating a study into primary and recency effect - a search on yahoo or a psychology textbook should help you find out more about this. There are a lot of aspects of memory, which are you trying to look at? Try looking up the specific feature you're interested in, look at some of the experiments and theories and then adapt one of the experiments' methods to use in your study.

search for Ashworth, he did a lot of memory testing!!
some about obedience but a lot about memory, also there is one who i cant remeber who its done by but it involves lots of words and having two groups, one with the words in a scrambeled order and one in an order that told a story!
It depends though if you are doing anything about schemas

How about showing them a pack of cards and getting them to see if they can remember the order that they came out in?
