I have written and self published two books, a very hard row to hoe. Then I discovered this! I reccommend, If you browse to New York Literary Agency and follow their instructions. They ask you to send them a querry letter with a promise to answer in two days. (They Do) If interested in your work they ask you to send your manuscript by email and show you how to do this. They promise to get back to you in two weeks and again they do. They charge nothing unless they find you a publisher and then only 15% of books sold. You can't beat this. I know of no others that do this in this time frame. Trust me, if you go the snail mail route with others it takes up to three years to get an answer if you get one at all. Please, please let me know how you make out if you take this route.

Get a copy of a book about how to get published, or join a writer's group. Even people who live in the states don't hand deliver their entire manuscripts to agents or publishing houses.

There is definitely a protocol, and you need to find out what it is. Some publishing houses accept unsolicited manuscripts, some only work with agents. Most don't want a complete manuscript upfront, just an outline/proposal and a sample of your writing.

You should be able to do everything throught he mail or via email, but you have to learn the language and protocol, or no one will speak to you.

If you were here in the States, I would recommend your local library. I know there are books about exactly this. Try to buy one through Amazon, or try the homepages of publishers. I know some of the websites have solicitation information, too.

Good luck.

Feed your manuscript to a goat. You've got about as much of a chance to publish that as a chicken in a blender has a chance of reaching middle age.

It really doesn't matter where you are currently located. You can query agents and publishers from anywhere.
