oil leaks in cars?

yesterday while driving home my poil light came on in my 01 focus and i before i left i opened the hood and noticed oil on the inside of the hood what is wrong??

lots of oil normally = something simple. If there is oil all over the hood, it sounds to me that an oil cap is missing. But you have most likely already check that. A leaking valve cover would not put oil on the hood like you have explained. Maybe check your oil filter to see if it is loose or it has been puncherd. Normally if it's leaking alot of oil it simple to fix, if it's leaking a little oil it's most likely something expensive.

first thing to do is to get more oil into the engine. With the hood up and the engine running, you should be able to spot where the oil is coming from, if it's bad enough to hit the hood. I would get it fixed real soon before you cause yourself a lot more trouble with the spilled oil, or damage to the engine with the low oil.

Check your oil to see how much you are loosing. Look at motor area closely and try to determine where most oil is built up. It could be the oil cap came off, or left off. Check all gasket areas. You may need to clean the motor and watch it very closely to see where the leak is coming from. Check the levels often. How is it running? Any noise or vibrations pop up?

on the hood? thats a heck of a leak. oil cap left off? if not, youll have to look for or have someone find the leak. dont drive without oil!!

possible oil leak or there is a crack somewhere where distepater cap is oil fliter vacume leak best bet have mechanic check it im me let me know all going on and what car is doing and sounds its making im me back
