When I am sad our dog will "Hug" us and look up at us with big bashful eyes and sigh..but the sweetest thing happens in the summer. I am a mother of three and when the kids are trying to swim in their pool in the summer..they are fine...UNTIL they try to splash and yell (As kids do). If that happens He will go underwater, grab them by the seat of their pants and drag them out of the pool. He is saving them from drowning in his own mind. The sweetest thing? He started doing this all on his own, no training...just pure love.

I have an older cat who loves being in my lap but if i pick him up, he HATES that. He'll growl until i put him back down....then he'll slap my foot and run off. (hes very unsociable, he was abused by his previous owners and even though we've had him for over 10 years, I guess he hasnt forgotten that). Anyway One day I was having a bad day so I picked him up and held him tight and I guess he knew because he didnt growl once. He even purred (maybe just to make me feel better, I dont know) but when I put him down he jumped back in my lap and nudged me to pet him some more.

My cats know when I am sad and come and lay beside me if I'm on the bed. This is the truth.
I hope your partner gets well. It's awful to be sick.

animals can sense a change in emotions. your animal probably sensed sadness and was trying to cheer you up. my little doggy always loves to snuggle with me when i'm lonely- when my husband is at work.

When my dog knows Im upset, he will come to me and lean on me like he is giving me a hug. Then when I lean toward him he gives me a nudge (kiss) on my cheek.
