My company want me to be on call outside work hours but it seems thay dont want to pay (no surprise) they will pay if i am called out but not pay for actually being on call.Is there any law regards this situation

AFAIK, laws are according to the contractual agreement between you and your employer. If you signed the employment letter saying that you were willing to work during off hours, then there can be little done by legalities.

You need to refer to your contract of employment to see what it says about on-call requirements. If there is a requirement you mights also want to consider this in conjunction with the terms of the European Working Time Directive.

all depends on what's in your contract, is this something they ever mentioned when you took the job on? I'm surprised they don't offer a flat rate for you to be on call and then a rate if you get called out. If in doubt try contacting ACAS, they'll point you in the right direction.

Its one of those - if you dont do it you will be frowned upon by them upstairs... you dont have to be on call ...give them a "domestic" reason why your phone cant ring during the night...tell them you cant sleep - or your kids will wake up etc..etc.. but most time the financial gains are worth it...my wife gets £125 just for taking the call .+ overtime + the perks of the car & the free mobile ... .

you are required to do anything that is in your contract. i was a nurse and sang in a band for years without a problem then suddenly they decided they needed me on call. i successfully argued that it was not in my terms of employment. so they then altered the contract to include the phrase 'anything the employer deems necessary for the good of a patient' so my singing was eventually scuppered.

I think they can,im on call too,same situation dont get paid unless i get called out,but when on call i cant drink etc.They probably put a clause in your contract somewhere-not that ive checked mine!!
