I'm in my early 30's and I find myself thinking about my childhood more and more...is it cause I have kids and perhaps they're reminding me of myself at their age? Whatever it is, it's really starting to take a toll on me lately...i'm always digging up old songs...I even went on youtube the other day and watch old commercials from the 80's!! I was listening to "rock the kasbah" the other day and I was pretty much depressed the rest of the day.....my wife says it's normal but I dont think she understands how deep this is affecting me.

You must have either missed out on many things as a child, or you have unresolved childhood issues. You should involve your kids in your quest. Your children will learn a lot more about your generation, and it will probably help mend whatever issues you might be dealing with.

Doesn't sound like you had a tramatic event in your life just recently. It's nice to think of the past but not dwell on the past and become obsessed with it because while you're thinking of the past you're missing the here and now.

You have already made the first step by asking this question!

I wouldn't say to just block it out of your mind. It's OK to think of the past for a little while. But when you find that you can't get your mind off it of write or type your thoughts. Write down everything that comes into your mind. You might discover some truths you didn't know and find some answers.

Then, try and let go. Listen to your favorite music or do something else that will distract you. Read a good book, watch TV, do something with your kids.

Good luck.

The best sports people are the ones that live in the present, my Grand mother brought living in the present to the extreme: she used to buy a 5kg bag of potatoes every day and cook them all then whatever was left over usually half to a third she would throw away. She "would never dream of serving old potatoes to any of her family" so would buy a new bag everyday!!. My father is somewhaat similiar and he is one of the happiest people I know, exact opposite of my mother and me who cant let go. I got some relief before when I spoke to a councellor maybe that would be worth a try and might help you to let it go.

I'm not sure. My brother passed away a few years ago and I find that since then, I have become extremely sentimental and have been constantly thinking about our childhood and teenage years. Maybe there's something you miss or that's bothering you that you associate with your childhood.

It is normal, but u shud remember that past is the past and has gone long back. What you shud do is try to live in the moment and take each day as u have been born today. A well known proverb says that. " Take each day as you are born that day and die when you sleep" . Their are 365 lives u live in one year.
