Schools here in America vary alot, and I am sure there are a few hundred, to possibly thousands taht would remind you of what you saw. Those TV shows and films are based on the real thing, but they are the idealized real thing.
I went to a school, where generally the school was clean, and we were separated into groups. The school was pretty big, so we had to have several groups. We had about three thousand kids in our school, which I hear is not uncommon.
Now if you mean that all schools are seperated into Jocks, coloreds, geeks, rebels, and the like, no they are not. Never officially really. Sure, you can generalise about how a person dresses, but that doesn't really say who that person hangs out with.

Schools here are clean and the "groups" I believe you are refering to are either A Classrooms or B Cliques= like popular kids vs. nonpopular. But you might want to be more specific with your questions to get a better answer.

well i can say i haven't seen either show but i can tell you that there are cliches in every school. people with things in common tend to hang out together. the hallways are fairly clean, but of course people track in dirt and gum from outside so the hallways can be a little dirty.

Heck no the corridors are not white and clean. In my school we weren't all that separated like that, we mingled a little.
