I think, just by having nuclear bombs, India is contributing to the world peace signifficantly. The bombs serve as the ultimate deterrent for adventurists, of which they have plenty in the area (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, etc) India's military power and especially the 8-10 or so nuclear bombs they have also serves as a counterbalance to the communist China, which if unchecked might become the regional superpower and the dominant policymaker. China, although it likes to portray itself as a friendly dragon, is unpredictable and recently has been flexing its musscles a bit. A confrontation with the US over Taiwan's status is somewhat likely. Its other regional disputes like the dispute with Japan over sea territory and an island off the coast of Japan as well as other instabilities in the region like the nuclear situation with North Korea can all lead to a massive strategic shift on favor of China. Without India asserting its interests, China will instinctively seek to dominate and alter the delicate balance of power in the region.

As to global terrorist threats, India's edgy relationship with it's neighbor Pakistan serves well. Because of India's stance towrds Pakistan, the latter feel threatened thus have a tight military government. That government with Mr. Musharaf at it's head is better than any alternative government the extremely islamic Pakistan can produce in the foreseeable future. Musharaf's heavy-handedness (which is indirectly thanks to India's tough policy) with Pakistan's uncontrollable tribes serves well in keeping the lid on the potential terrorists.

These are just a couple of thoughts on the subject. With more careful consideration, we will easily see that India contributes more than just curries and cab drivers to the world peace.

What is the contribution of other countries in the world peace?. If you say US, who is responsible for the massacre of thousands of Iraqs and for what purpose?

India is one of the largest contributors of peace keeping force in UN. It acts according to the UN not on it's own like US ignoring the UN to declare war on Iraq. If India had to do it, it could have declared war against Pakistan long back. It would have made the entire asia region peaceless if it resorted to like what US did.

Don't forget the introduction of Non-violence by Gandhi. Many countries still adopt what Gandhi taught. MLK himself was a follower of Gandhi.

Look at the following PDF for peace keeping ranks in the UN.
