To fire someone, a company usually does a lot of justification on papers so that they wouldn't get sued easily by the employees (who is going to be dismissed).

From the financial point of view, DON'T RESIGN. Hang in there. If they really fire you, they have to compensate. If you resign, you'll get nothing. But it's better to resign if you want a good record in your resume. Consider money is not so important for you!

The person has then resigned. This makes life easier for the manager. Everytime you fire someone, you run the risk of being accused of wrongful dismissal. This can turn into an ugly battle (one I've encountered a few times). The employee, if in Ontario, when they resign, can put their unemployment benefits at risk.

It just means that you quit before you let them get rid of you. Most people do that to keep their resume looking somewhat decent when you go to look for another job. Most jobs look at resumes and when you leave voluntarily they will just ask a few questions about why you left and it won't look too bad. But when you get fired it draws a red flag on your resume. But as far as doing something it doesn't but keep you from being eligible for unemployment

It means you don't get unemployment. If you resign, you won't get a dime. Don't do it. Hang in there and wait them out, then go and apply for unemployment.
