it is an Ovulation Induction Drug

Clomid is often a first line treatment to induce regular ovulation. Clomid works at the level of the hypothalamus where it competes for estrogen binding sites. When these "sites are occupied" by Clomid, the hypothalamus responds by producing more GnRH which then stimulates the pituitary to produce FSH. Remember, in a normal cycle healthy follicles produce estrogen, which signals the hypothalamus to reduce production of FSH. Clomiphene is marketed in the United States by Aventis Laboratories as Clomid and by Serono Laboratories as Serophene.

The goal of clomiphene therapy is to establish normal ovulation rather than cause the development of numerous eggs. Once ovulation is established, there is no benefit to increasing the dosage further . Numerous studies show that pregnancy usually occurs during the first three months of therapy and treatment beyond six months is not recommended. Clomiphene can cause side effects such as ovarian hyperstimulation (rare), visual disturbances, nausea, diminished "quality" of the cervical mucus, multiple births, and others.

Clomid is used to stimulate the ovaries.
I'm almost sure this is only done under a GP's supervision and not bought freely (or it shouldn't be)

I was on clomid when i was trying to concieve. I think at 18 you are still young enough that the doctors wouldn't find it necessary for you to use it............. i was 35 and had no periods.
It was a nightmare being on that drug...... it was an emotional rollercoaster.
I was taken off the drug because of the side effect and a year later i fell pregnant without the need for intervention.
Go visit your GP.

well im starting clomid for the second time as soon as my period starts any day now hopefully!! are they any good you ask? i think they are great the first time i took them i fell pregnant first month but i lost that one but then i had a month off after that and the third month once i got back on them i fell pregnant with my daughter who is now nearly 2. Also you must be under medical supervision when your on them because they can be harmful if they're not right for you but i got put on them when i was 18 because i had a kind and understanding doctor.

Clomid is a fertility drug that is used to help women ovulate. I am presently on my fourth cycle of clomid: I take them on the 3rd - 7th day of my menstrual cycle in 50mg tabs. I am sorry because I am not sure if you can buy them in the u.k., but they are sold over the internet I think.
