I have had about enough of this, i mean my periods have always been painful, but not like this. I have been on the pill for about 4 months now, and it doesnt really affect the pain level of them.
I have tried everything and nothing works for me, even co-codamol. It seems to come in almost paralysingly-painful waves. They cramp my back up which is already bad - and I just need something. I have extreme moodswings and its getting unbearable now.

PLEASE HELP

Generally, a NSAI (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) is your best bet - period pains are caused by inflammation, so a drug that prevents or mitigates inflammation will work better than one (like paracetamol or even codeine) that doesn't - though you might have some luck with Ibuprofen + codeine (which you can buy in your chemist).

A more drastic solution would of course be a hysterectomy, but I doubt you'd want to go that far!

However, please note, you really should visit your doctor, rather than relying on advice from a website. I am not a medical professional, though I am a woman who suffers from the same thing.

"According to Medline Plus (a very useful site):

* Apply a heating pad to your lower abdomen (below your belly-button). Be careful NOT to fall asleep with it on.
* Take warm showers or baths.
* Drink warm beverages.
* Do light circular massage with your fingertips around your lower abdomen.
* Walk or exercise regularly, including pelvic rocking exercises.
* Follow a diet rich in complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, but low in salt, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine.
* Eat light but frequent meals.
* Try over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, such as ibuprofen.
* Practice relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga.
* Try vitamin B-6, calcium, and magnesium supplements, especially if your pain is from PMS.
* Keep your legs elevated while lying down. Or lie on your side with knees bent.

If these self-care measures do not work, your doctor may prescribe medications such as:

* Stronger anti-inflammatories like diclofenac (Cataflam)
* Antidepressants
* Birth control pills
* Antibiotics
* Stronger pain relievers (even narcotics such as codeine, for brief periods)"

Good luck!

I go through the same thing. Midol multi-symptom helps a lot with the mood swings. Ibuprofen helps with the pain, but can make you bleed heavier. A hot water bottle or heating pad placed on your back can ease the pain loads.

If you want to try herbal remedies, mugwart or catnip can be helpful. You make a tea and drink it 2 to 4 times a day. Catnip tea can also settle your stomach. I always get an upset stomach after hurting a while. I hope this helps.

My pains just worsened now that I'm Peri-menopausal. I was surprised to find out that the generic formula PMS caplets sold at Dollar General and Family Dollar,(I don't know if you have those discount stores in your area) work really well to alleviate the pain, bloating and moodiness! And it only cost $2.00 for 32 caplets.

laughter is often called the best medicine
a hot water bottle usually helps ~ eating fruits eg bananas really help for some reason, might be due to the amount of minerals in there! ~ a bunch of analgesics such as paracetomol if ur desperate ~ or u cud juz sleep it off !!!!!!
also, try not to think about it, if you mentally think it hurts excruciatly, it will ~ but if you forget about it, ull forget about it!

Stay away from chocolate and eat fish. It will do wonders.. Ask your doctor for Motrin 800 not the 400 or over the counter.. the 800 will do the trick. I was like you are and I thought I would rather die than for period time to come around.. good luck.

changing to cilest contraceptive pill really helped me. Also taking Feminax tablets (specially for period pains), and having two hot water bottles, one for tummy and one for back.
