I have recently moved into a new property but the Worcester 28i Combi boiler seems to have problems with pressure. The boiler works but the pressure has never gone above 1 and so is always below the recomended pressure.

If I need hot water and the contiol is on the hot water only mode the pressure is not enough to provide hot water, unless the central heating control is set to on, then it is ok.

I spoke to a friend and they recomended that I locate the pressure release valve and turn it until the pressure built up. Problem is it will only turn one way and the pressure has gone down even more now.

Have I done the right thing but not enough or is there something else I need to do. I can't afford over £100 to get someone out just to turn the correct knob.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

There is a tap about 0.5 metre below the boiler, if this adjusts the pressure which way do I turn it?

There should be a tap like device underneath that allows water into the boiler. If you open it, it should increase the pressure, but do it gradually!! The taps should be marked. Good luck!!

I assume when you talk about the pressure relief valve you mean the filling loop? It should be under the boiler usually black lever and steel braided pipe - to top up the boiler pressure turn it anticlockwise and stop when you get to 1.2 bar you will hear the water struggling through if you don,t then your mains water pressure is lower than the needed pressure to get into the boiler. Is your cold water from kitchen tap really high pressure if not then a combi should not have been fitted. Try filling the combi at a time when most people are sleeping you then have the best pressure available Remember everytime you top up the combi significantly you will have to bleed the rads to get the air out and then top it up again if the pressure has gone down.

Sounds like a real problem - if you live in the North West, try STL Heating. I did as they've got a good reputation plus they did a good job fixing my brothers gas boiler the other week too!

we have had similar problems with our boiler. raising the pressure will work but we found that it was being caused by a small leak. once leak was fixed it was fine. we were lucky we were covered by scottish gas so didnt c ost us anything. been told that this is a common problem with this make of boiler.

If that doesn't work check the pipework to the tap it should have a slotted isolating valve check it's open fully with flat head screwdriver
