lol, you ask the question and you have given us the answer and yet people are still guessing. I dont know about it being a riddle but is it a joke ? i dont get it.

Ok this is a stupid wild guess, probably wrong.
When their making the cup, they put the bottom on it, which they can't take out because it won't be a cup no more.

lololol, ok but you can repair the crack and refinish the cup so it's no longer visible! (i took ceramics)
