My computer works fine until I plug my portable hard drive, digital camera or digital media player into my computer. I have tried different leads and different USB ports but nothing helps. Any suggestions?

Have you tried plugging the devices in before you switch the computer on? I have an external HDD which will not work if plugged in when the computer is on. I think it is something to do with the power they use but do not really know.

Some older computers or even older hardware don't support HOT Plug and Play. Try plugging the Hard Drive or the Digital Camera in before powering up the system.

Are you using a hub if so connect the additional power supply that came with it. If you are not then how many other devices are you using that operate from your USB port's and how big is your PSU{Power Supply Unit} as there may not be sufficient power to run all of your USB devices at the same time.

Well first, what OS are you using? is it Windows 98 windows XP. if its 98, its better to plug it first before bootup but if its windows XP use an extension cable to avoid other cables being touched. Kindly click the thumbs up vote icon, in order to for me to help others.
