Never play a game without a set time limit. It happened to me before. Luckily I was more stubborn than the other guy and he finally finished the game... but I never played without a time limit ever again :)
If it's not possible to put a time limit on whatever game you're playing, then you should report the other player.

In most games there is a time limit, or you can set a time limit. When players refuse to finish the game you can force them to forfeit the game.

In chess there's a time limit. I don't know what game you're playing, but there should be a time limit to make a move or forfeit.

Report them to the admin, sometimes you'll get credited that game.

There is usually a "boot from table" button that will allow you to force them to leave if they are inactive.
