Well whether you feel they should be allowed to join freely or not, they're already IN every branch of the military and have been since the very beginning. Because of this I highly doubt that allowing gay people to join the military as "out" will change the percentage of gay people in the military appreciably. Gay or straight you have to be willing to lay your life on the line and not everyone is up for that sort of thing.
Anyone who is capable of serving and wants to serve should be allowed to serve. Kicking highly decorated veterans out of the military simply because of who they love does nothing but cripple our military. It deprives the younger recruits of the wisdom that they could have learned from such a dedicated person.

They already serve, fight, die and protect this country...
American cemeteries are scattered all over the world, do you think that every man and woman buried in those graves was straight?
I come from a Military family, and I was raised with the notion that any man or woman is worthy of respect and any one who would fight at my side is my brother or sister.
I personally don't see the reason an openly gay man should not be allowed to serve.
Honestly however I know that may not happen any time in the near future, but I if I could serve I would welcome them, if it ever did happen.
You should think about the fact that a lot of people have spilled their blood for this country, and any one willing to do so, should have that right and that privilege.

What a silly concept. Do you think there is some way that you might be able to exclude them. Gays can be documented as having served in the arm services for a long time and many have been exemplary soldiers. What bothers you about being in the military with them are you worried that it might be contagious? Relax it isn't contagious. You probably have met at least one gay in your life and it hasn't impacted you one way or another.

I don't understand why not if they're qualified. I know the straight guys are paranoid that a gay guy might look at their butt or something. Big deal. It's actually very flawed and not objective because how do you know if the person is gay or not? A person can be 100% homosexual, not reveal it, go into the armed forces and do a great job. You can screen people to see if they're physically fit but how do you screen for sexual orientation?

Why shouldn't we? Do care if a homosexual drs on you in a hospital when you are in an accident? or being cared for in an ambulance? or even waited on in a restruant? The only people who seem to have a problem with gays entering the military openly are the homophobs. I can speak from a lesbians point of view that we do not hit on every single woman we come in contact with. We do not push our lifestyle upon anyone. And speaking for the gay men that I know, they do not hit on every man that come in contact with. if they have a job to do then thats what they do.. it's about time the rest of america wake up, and realize that gays are not bad and being gay is not contagious and you cant catch it like the flue or anything just by standing or working next to them...

Yes, I do.
I believe in Liberty and Justice For All.
That said, I have to wonder how many members of a minority that is discriminated against would be willing to fight for other people's freedom. Probably some would - already some do - but I doubt there would be many.
Imagine someone who is wounded in combat for this country, but isn't allowed to marry who they love. Probably we already have such heroes, but they can't openly tell the truth about themselves or they will lose their benefits.

Yes because I don't see how their orientation in any way affects their ability to perform in the military. Now, if they're hitting on other guys and distracting in that way, then I say no.

Yes they should be allowed to enter any work force they wish, just because they have a different sexual persuasion does not mean they can't do the job as well as any "straight person".

Why not? Everyone is held to the same code of conduct, I don't see how orientation should be a factor.
