Windows Vista will work properly in 1GB RAM. You should not have any issues with it, or upgrading to 2GB RAM.

If you do upgrade, your best bet is to work with a memory specialist like crucial technology. They have a great tool to make sure you get the memory you need. With your order will be explicit installation instructions. They will tell you exactly what panel to remove and how to install the modules you need.

You can use http://www.24houredeals.com/crucial-technology-coupons-324-mer.html to get free shipping for that order as well.

Vista is supposed to work in 1gb
to upgrade from 1gb to 2gb take out one of your moduels and take it to the store, you currently most likely have 2 512mb cards and ask them for 2 1gb cards of the same tpye that you have now. Then substitye your new cards for your old ones (remember to ground yourself, touch the frame of the computer)

if you want to upgrade to 2g. after purchase, you will have take out 2pcs of your 512k module and trash it or give it away. then replace them with 2pcs of 1g. module costing 90 to 100 dollars each is not cost affective. (you will need 2 of same DDR2 for it to work effectively)
