fashionable to have either or both done now for males, its a quick relatively pain free procedure, if its the soft fleshy lobe, its ok 2 have done with a gun, its over in seconds, jewellery in, done, and its a warm sensation rather than painful, using a needle takes a tad longer but not much and again gives a hot sensation, as with any piercing, aftercare is everything, a piercing is an invasive procedure and should be looked after, your piercer should give u aftercare sheet and advice, but in my experience nothing works as well as salt water to clean/heal with, half a tsp sea salt dissolved in half a pint of water, clean and dry thoroughly several times a day with clean hands and u should b fine, good luck

It was gay men who, as in most fashion trends, opened the door for straight men. Gay men began piercing the right ear only and straight men followed by piercing the left. Maybe that standard still applies in some places. Later gay men began piercing both ears and straight men followed. However, with so many people piercing, tattooing, and using implants pretty much anywhere on the body it really doesn't mean much any longer. To be in better fashion, you should just pierce both ears.

Left ear was the trend. These days both ears or any ear or more than one piercing is appropriate. Mild pain only a pinch, sometime a bit of burning feeling after. You need to clean it often or it can get infected. You should bye gold earrings to have less chance of infection. Some people can wear fashion jewellery.

hello,
Well back in my young days ( Dinosaur times. LOL)if a man wore any kind of an earring they were considered gay.
But now we are in 2007 where anything goes.
So one earring is on the left side.
Hey but who cares today they have both sides done.
Some more than others and all over the body.
Is it painless no not if done quick. With those guns they have today well, that hurts (Like someone shot an elastic off behind your ear).

Make sure you do keep an eye on the swelling, your peroxide on the hole and keep rotating the ring or stud.

Left for men. Dates way back in time. Both ears for women, also dates way back in time. Right ear for gays. Dates back only a few years. Both ears for men? Seems a bit sassy to me. It doesn't hurt. A slight pin prick for a fraction of a second as it pierces the skin. It is in before you know it. Cleaning is very important. You will be told how to clean it by the piercer.

i have one at the left ear...

it took me some time to decide the left ear is better than the right one; aside from doing some sort of survey by looking at men with ear piercings where most of them had it on the left (about seven out of ten), it DOES look better on the left and gayish on both.

and nope, its not painful at all..they have this gadget that executes a painless ear piercing, just takes about a second to pierce your ear. after that, you will have to take care of the piercing by yourself. you might want to allow about five days before removing the earring so that the wound is completely healed and will not seal off...don't fail to disinfect it always.

With regard to any meaning, about 20 years ago, a work colleague of mine had his ear pierced, and a small ring put in.

However, he was told that the ear he had chosen ( I will need to be careful with this answer, I do not wish to offend anyone) was one used by homosexuals. I can not remember which ear it was, so I would enquire first.
Fortunately, we have moved on from those day's, so it may no longer be of importance, but thought you may like to know.

Traditionally sailors wore an ear ring in the left ear. This ring was made of gold and was worn by the sailor to ensured that he had a Christian burial in the event of his death.
