You could go hiking. Torrey Pines is a great place for that. In the spring hike to Cedar Falls and swim under the falls. Beach volleyball at Pacific or Mission Beach is free. Watch a spectacular sunset into the ocean from any beach or from the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla. Have a bonfire on the beach. Most beaches have firepits. Roast marshmellows and make s-mores.

Balboa Park is huge and mostly free. Downtown, Horton Plaza is an outdoor mall which is huge also w/ lots to do, Hotel del Coronado across the bay bridge is great to walk around, Prospect Street in La Jolla is also nice to hang out, right above La Jolla cove, where you can walk all around, see the sea lions and walk along the ocean.
