Usually, people only ask for truth for truth's sake, so really, what's the point of knowing the truth?
What we don't know can't hurt us, right?
Ignorance could be annoying but it's not entirely wrong, right?

Depends on the subject - If it is do I look fat in this (and I know I do) why does my husband need to tell the truth to knock my confidence - but if it was Is my husband cheating on me - then I would want the genuine truth cos no matter how much it hurts that is something I feel I would need to deal with.

We should always work toward what makes people feel positive. If the truth makes someone happy, yeah tell the truth. The problem we have is the opposite side of the scale, when truth hurts. The issue is peoples behaviour. If our actions are honest, honourable and dignified then even if the truth hurts, we remain trust worthy and in safe knowledge that our actions where done for the best. If our actions are non of the above, thats when lies come into it. So in their very essence, lies are bad. For all other issues in the case of small white lies, i think if they don't involve betrayal, and simply withholding a truth that would negatively effect someone, someone that simply does not need to know that infomation and both parties come out non the worse for it, then you have to say thats ok.

There are more truths than mankind will ever know so I hope it is not required that we "always" know the truth ! But what we don't know can hurt us an example would be not knowing what a tornado was and therefore not taking shelter when ya see one coming, or not knowing how to avoid being ran over by not crossing with the light at an intersection! Mankinds greatest single asset is his brain, to not use it to it's potential has to be about as wrong as wrong can be!

I kind of agree with you. It's not necessary to know the truth unless you be much happier after knowing the truth. Another instance where you want to know the truth is to learn from it so that you can use it again later.

After all, the essence of living is to live happily and make others happy. As long as that purpose is served, truth doesn't matter.

There are hundred, perhaps thousands, of events about which you don't know the truth, and yet you continue you life normally.

And yet, you do want to know the truth about other things.

Truth is relative. You do want to know the truth when you go to the doctor. You may not care about the truth with regards to Jade Goody's motivations. Either way, each person must decide for themselves when the truth is important.

It may not be necessary for some personal matters, but for matters such as life and death, pregnancy and other natural cause, the truth is the best. You are a prisoner by ignorance but The truth can set you free.

There is no urgency or immense need to KNOW every "truth", IF not knowing it has no negative affect on the situation or person as a result of not knowing the truth.

And why should everyone know everything? As jolly, old Saint Nicholson said in A FEW GOOD MEN......."You can't handle the truth!"

I agree with you that the truth can hurt us but if we don't know the truth, how can we move on to another step. After you make a move maybe you gonna be more happier than before you don't know the truth.

The way I understand your question, you are saying that people seek truth not to live it but rather to know it, which really is a sad contradiction of our reason. Truth is not so much about knowing what is right or wrong, nor about what is pleasing or harmful to me. Truth is about understanding myself in relation to reality, and living in correspondence with that reality. Otherwise, my person and my actions are surrounded by a great falsity. In essence, my existence proceeds to be a great lie. This sort of existence is very poor indeed and can only serve to unbalance a person psychologically.

The old cliche says "ignorance is bliss" but it never did say it wasn't wrong. Indeed, we are not expected to know everything, but we are expected to know things that correspond to us. Violating a policy at work and being reprimanded for it cannot be excused by ignorance since I am responsible to learn and understand company policy. In the same way, I cannot choose to remain ignorant on things that are of import to me in all spheres of my life. Otherwise your ignorance only displays the incoherency of your life, which must be a life you yourself are not content with.
